The Park’s New Tradition

Holliday Park’s story began during the 1916 centennial celebration of Indiana statehood, when John and Evaline Holliday donated their country estate to the City of Indianapolis, expressing the belief that “the land is singularly suited to be a place for recreation and the study of nature.”

Over 100 years later, it’s safe to say that their vision has been fulfilled. We’re so excited to add the skating rink to serve this mission. This will become an annual holiday tradition. Proceeds from the Ice Rink at Holliday Park will go to the Holliday Park Foundation Endowment to allow the park to continue to grow, evolve, and serve the community.

Field trips

Bring your students to experience a wooded winter wonderland with an outdoor Ice Rink and snow-dusted trails! Experienced environmental educators have designed three dynamic educational opportunities found only at Holliday Park:

The Science of Snow

From tiny specks to big fluffy puffs and everything in between, let’s take a closer look at the science of snow formation and the math of snowflakes. Laps around the ice rink will help solidify students’ new knowledge.

Winter Wonder

Learn how animals survive the winter months. From storing food to growing a thicker coat, native wildlife have lots of tricks to help them handle the chilly weather. Use those tricks to help bundle up when you head out onto the ice rink.

Learn to Skate

Skating Lessons

The Ice Rink at Holliday Park has partnered with the Winter Club of Indianapolis to offer three unique courses designed to make all ages and skill levels comfortable both on and off the ice.

Learn to Skate USA® Lessons

Learn to Skate USA® teaches lessons to sharpen their focus and provide greater balance on and off the ice. As they conquer challenges on their paths to amazing, new worlds well beyond the world of skating will happen right before their eyes. Monday and Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, see calendar for availability.

Coffee Club

Learn to Skate USA® recognizes skating as the timeless activity anyone can enjoy – young and young at heart.

The adults-only Coffee Club lessons are designed to bring beginners up on the basics or refresh skate of all skill levels. No better way to warm up on a winter morning than a hot cup of coffee by the fire with your friends! Wednesdays at 11 a.m.

Homeschool Lessons

Challenging kids makes them stronger than you can imagine and nature can be the greatest teacher for your homeschool children. They do learn to fall, but more importantly, they learn to get back up! Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Each class includes:

  • 30 minutes of group instruction, plus 30 minutes of practice
  • Complimentary skate rental
